Kwame Nkrumah @ 100 (1909 - 2009)
A retrospective exhibition on his life, times and legacy
At a summit meeting of the Afrikan Union in Libya July 2009, the AU officially adopted the Kwame Nkrumah centenary to be marked in honour of a founding father and great visionary. Voted Man of the Millennium in the 2000 BBC world service listener’s survey, he remains a global icon of self determination.
Across the world, centenary activities are being held from September 2009 to May 2010 with a special gathering of AU heads of state in honour of Dr Nkrumah during the annual commemoration of Afrikan Liberation Day (ALD) in Accra.
To honour this historic occasion, Moyo wa Taifa in collaboration with partner groups will produce an international educational exhibition on Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah’s life, times and legacy.
The exhibition will combine socio-historical narratives with a retrospective analysis, utilising multi dimensional tools of art, imagery, text and film on his role as nation builder, statesman, philosopher and visionary for Afrikan liberation and unification.
Nkrumah’s unflinching dedication to the quest for freedom and self determination is one of the most outstanding examples of our national liberation struggle against colonialism and ensuing attempts to stave off neo colonialism in Afrika. The exhibition will engage in a retrospective visit of his legacy to continually inspire new generations of Afrikans worldwide with his vision.
The main exhibition will be mounted in Accra with a mobile version on tour in other regions of Ghana, the Continent and Diaspora in subsequent months. If you’d like the exhibition to visit your country, city or region, please register your interest.
Scheduled to debut in Accra in May 2010, the exhibition will be launched as an integral part of the annual commemoration of Afrikan Liberation Day and coincide with the special gathering of heads of state in honour of Dr Nkrumah in Accra on May 25.
